Shrek classification
A) Shrek is a mixture of many genres, such as cartoon, reality, animation, musical, comedy and love story. The reason for this is because the movie has a real mixture of scenes suited for all age groups that everyone will enjoy. The reason for this is because the storyline is pretty much bits of all fairytales put together and turned around using all the genres contained in them
The two most prominent genres are comedy and animation. It is a comedy because the whole movie is pretty much a parody of other fairytales and right from the start to finish it is filled with laughs. Some examples of this include donkey a talking donkey, an evil midget prince and an ugly ogre that manages to get the girl. The movie is also an animation as it is obviously computer generated and not real life. Also many scenes would be to hard to be shown by living actors ans so must be made up.
B) The movie shrek was so popular when it came out, but not only because of the fantastic storyline bit also because of the realistic characters that appeared to the audience to be the most human like characters in movie. Even for Shrek, an ogre, as his facial features looked very human like and made him appear more vulnerable and human-like.
Some of the techniques used to portray the characters like this include the shaper, shading and layering. The shaper is a computer program that works from the inside out and gives the characters realistic facial and body movements. This can make the characters look sad, happy or any human emotion. The shader adds shading to the characters and the background to show how the light affects them. It also helps to make sure the animated characters don't look plastic. Finally layering is when they add the different layers to each frame in order to make it look real. This works by adding the background layer, then the characters and lastly any props or bushes, etc.
