The opening sequence of the movie gives away a lot of information about shrek and his personality using various techniques. The techniques used to portray him are angles, lighting, music and the way he talks. All of these techniques are very important to unravel his nature as the character he plays.
The first time we meet shrek he has just come out of the bathroom and we automatically can tell that he is a big ogre but not like the ogres in fairytales are usually stereotyped. As he goes through his daily routines we find out that he is so ugly he breaks mirrors, is utterly disgusting and passes smells that can even kill living fish We can also tell that he enjoys privacy and can support himself as he lives alone in his swamp and hates visitors such as the people trying to kill him, which he treats like a joke and finds humorous. From just the opening sequence we can tell all this About Shrek's personality.
Some techniques used to show his personality is the music which is quite happy and corny and shows that he loves life just the way it is. The angles used for the film also show his size and how big he is, a great example of this is when the villagers come after him and it shows how little they are compared to him using a low angle on him for the villagers perspective and a high angle shot of the villagers to show how small they are in contrast. The lighting also helps to make him appear scary or bright and happy at certain scenes. The way he talks also shows a lot about him such as how is pessimistic as he always makes sarcastic comments and his accent sounds a bit Scottish and matches his appearance perfectly making him sound the opposite of charming.
