Reading
I have not posted for awhile as I have been busy with poetry and the book I am currently reading isn't that exciting but I have to read to get through the rest of the series. It is the second book in the series of the last book I read and so far I'm quite disappointed that it is so dull at the moment.

Sylvia Plath ( 1932- 1963)
Sylvia Plath was An American poet who was born on October 27 1932 in Massachuets memorial hospital during the depression. She married a fellow poet Ted Hughes and had two children but separated later on. In her lifetime she wrote about 26 poems. Three facts many don't know about her is that her Father was 21 years older than her mother, She was a single mother and her second pregnancy let to a miscarriage. Plath was shy at first about her writing but close to her death had a burst of creativity and wrote many poems. Sylvia sadly died February 11 1963 from carbon monoxide poisoning when she committed suicide by sticking her head in an oven with the gas still on. She was only 30 at this time and It was a very sad end to such a talented woman.

Clockwork Angel
I have recently started and finished the book Clockwork Angel which was a great book set in the 17-1800's but also had a magical world to it. There are different parts of this world, the mundanes (humans), werewolfs, vampires, downworlders, warlocks and guardians. The guardians protect the mundanes and are pretty much the police. The book is about this girl called Tessa who has the power to shape shift so many bad people want to get their hands on her powers. She stays with the guardians who look after her and help to find her brother who turns out to be a traitor. It was a great book filled with action, romance and suspense and I cannot wait for the next book in the series to come out......!

Hunger Games last part
I have now finished the Hunger Games Trilogy and am very sad about it as it was a fantastic series. In the end peter returned to normal and Katniss married and had children in the epilogue. However it was a very depressing end as many died such as Prim, Finnick and her other close friends. Even though it was an amazing book I wished there could have been a happier ending after all that's happened to them but this was probably a more realistic end.

The Hunger Games 3
Since my last post I finished the Hunger Games. It was the most fantastic book and kept me up wondering what will happen on the next book. In the end of the book Katniss went into the games and after going through all the terrifying, sad and suprising moments as well as the romantic moments between Peter and Katniss's fake crowd romance she finally won with Peter in a defiant move of threatening to kill her and peter if they didn't let them both live. I also went on to finsih the second book on the weekend which is about her duties after winning the hunger games and finding out the Capitol wants revenge for Katniss breaking the rules of the games. The reason they want revenge is because her moves have caused uprisings in the districts. Eventually they find out that they had to go back into the games for the Quater Quell, a special hunger games where only past victors are chosen to go back in. Katniss and peter, Finnick, johonna and 4 others manage to get into the final eight when Katniss breaks the force field and is taken by a hovercraft which can only get her and fin nick before having to retreat. Once on board they discover that the rebels who are starting the uprising want Katniss to become the head of the operation, the mocking jay which she is known as, because she brings hope to all districts. At the very end of the book she discovers her home town has been destroyed by bombings from the Capitol but that her family has survived. In the third book so far she has agreed to be the mocking jay and discovered the Capitol has peter in captivity. At the moment she is putting together videos to support the rebels and give them hope. It is a great book and I will be sad to finish this last one in the trilogy...

Hunger Games 2
I have continued reading the Hunger Games and so far have found it one of the most interesting books I have read already. Once I have finished it I will have to go onto the next book in the series. So far the tributes have been chosen and Katniss and the boy tribute Peter are both in training for the Hunger Games in the main district Capitol. They both don't believe they have a chance of winning but they are trying hard to keep their talents covered up. They are also trying to figure out each others tactics and what they are trying to accomplish. Along the way though a friendship has started to blossom but will most likely be destroyed quickly soon before the games start.

The Hunger Games
The hunger games is a book by the author Suzanne Collins that I have chosen to read this term in class. I chose this book because a lot of my friends had praised it and recommended it to me. The book is about a dark vision in the future where a reality tv show called the hunger games takes place. In the Hunger Games twelve boys and girls are forced to appear on this live event, there is one rule; kill or be killed. When katniss' sister is chosen she takes her place and sees it as a death sentence. But she has a lot of experience and survival is her second nature. So far I have read up to Chapter 2 and I have already found the book very interesting and suspenseful. Once I started I found it hard to put it down. I expect this book will be a great read as it was given great reviews and everyone said it was fantastic. I look forward to continuing it!!

This way at least one person should be able to help me! I have continued reading Dog Boy and decided that so far it definetly shows the transition from rags to riches. It has also affected me as when it is sad i feel sad for around an hour and when it is happy i feel happy!

From Claire De Lune to Dog Boy
After reading the first few chapters of Claire De lune I have decided it is not a strong enough book to do for my oral. With the help of Kona, Nina and Mrs Marcus Sangeren I have chosen the book Dog Boy. I have only read the back but it looks very interesting and I look forward to reading it tonight!

Claire de Lune
For my English Oral I have started reading Claire De Lune which so far I have gathered is a poor, mute ballerina. When she was young her famous ballerina mother died on stage at the end of her dance. No one realized until everyone stood up to give a round of applause and she never rose from her position on the ground. It turns out her heart was vey weak so she died from doing the dance. This is believed to be the reason Claire De Lune is mute as she was a baby at the time.

Chinese cinderella
This term we have been reading and learning about a book called Chinese Cinderella. The book is about a little girl that is rejected by her family except for her aunt, grandfather and third brother. She is tortured by her stepmother Niang who is a manipulative, impulsive person and left to feel like nothing. However, she strives on to gain her fathers attention and even gets sent to England to study! I found this a very nice book and I hope the author feels better now that the past is behind her

Shrek classification
A) Shrek is a mixture of many genres, such as cartoon, reality, animation, musical, comedy and love story. The reason for this is because the movie has a real mixture of scenes suited for all age groups that everyone will enjoy. The reason for this is because the storyline is pretty much bits of all fairytales put together and turned around using all the genres contained in them
The two most prominent genres are comedy and animation. It is a comedy because the whole movie is pretty much a parody of other fairytales and right from the start to finish it is filled with laughs. Some examples of this include donkey a talking donkey, an evil midget prince and an ugly ogre that manages to get the girl. The movie is also an animation as it is obviously computer generated and not real life. Also many scenes would be to hard to be shown by living actors ans so must be made up.
B) The movie shrek was so popular when it came out, but not only because of the fantastic storyline bit also because of the realistic characters that appeared to the audience to be the most human like characters in movie. Even for Shrek, an ogre, as his facial features looked very human like and made him appear more vulnerable and human-like.
Some of the techniques used to portray the characters like this include the shaper, shading and layering. The shaper is a computer program that works from the inside out and gives the characters realistic facial and body movements. This can make the characters look sad, happy or any human emotion. The shader adds shading to the characters and the background to show how the light affects them. It also helps to make sure the animated characters don't look plastic. Finally layering is when they add the different layers to each frame in order to make it look real. This works by adding the background layer, then the characters and lastly any props or bushes, etc.

Introducing shrek
The opening sequence of the movie gives away a lot of information about shrek and his personality using various techniques. The techniques used to portray him are angles, lighting, music and the way he talks. All of these techniques are very important to unravel his nature as the character he plays.
The first time we meet shrek he has just come out of the bathroom and we automatically can tell that he is a big ogre but not like the ogres in fairytales are usually stereotyped. As he goes through his daily routines we find out that he is so ugly he breaks mirrors, is utterly disgusting and passes smells that can even kill living fish We can also tell that he enjoys privacy and can support himself as he lives alone in his swamp and hates visitors such as the people trying to kill him, which he treats like a joke and finds humorous. From just the opening sequence we can tell all this About Shrek's personality.
Some techniques used to show his personality is the music which is quite happy and corny and shows that he loves life just the way it is. The angles used for the film also show his size and how big he is, a great example of this is when the villagers come after him and it shows how little they are compared to him using a low angle on him for the villagers perspective and a high angle shot of the villagers to show how small they are in contrast. The lighting also helps to make him appear scary or bright and happy at certain scenes. The way he talks also shows a lot about him such as how is pessimistic as he always makes sarcastic comments and his accent sounds a bit Scottish and matches his appearance perfectly making him sound the opposite of charming.

Relationships among fairytale characters:
Hero relates with
1.Helper
2.allies
3.enemies
4.advisors
What are the typical roles of the following character types-what kind of values do they represent and what usually happens to each character:
a) hero: the hero is always the good guy with a perfect personality and usually pretty or handsome. There values are that they are kind hearted, smart, witty, brave, selfless and fair. They are also usually males who are most likely princes who save the girl and then marries her and always wins in the end.
b) princess: the princess is the beautiful, kind hearted and smart maiden who faces a complication and needs help. The typical role is that the princess will become in distress and the prince has to save her. In the end the hero will save her and they will get married and live happily ever after
c) witch: the witch is typically the bad guy who wants to make problems for the hero and is usually a female. The witch is usually selfish and rude with no redeeming qualities. In the end the witch's plans are thwarted and the bad guy loses.
d)ogre: the ogre is known as the scary monster who eats people and is generally evil. They are usually quite dumb, hot tempered and mean spirited. They are usually known as one of the problems the hero has to defeat and they usually end up dying.
e)dragon: the dragon is typically evil and works for the bad guy to protect or guard something or someone. There values are that they are hot tempered, evil and mean. They usually end up, like the ogre, being killed by the hero.
f)king and queen: the king and queen are usually only small parts of any fairytales and not mentioned very often. Their values are their courage, determination and kindness. In the end they live happily ever after safe in their castle as they were before the complication.
